About

Sharon Mesmer

Working as both a teacher and school administrator gives me a unique perspective on the needs of parents and school staff.

Rutgers Law School, Camden · Licensed in New Jersey & Tennessee · Former teacher and vice principal

Before becoming an attorney, I spent twenty years in public education as a teacher and later as a middle and high school vice principal. I also served as a Section 504 coordinator and participated in hundreds of IEP meetings as both a teacher and an administrator. As an educator, administrator, and parent who raised children in public schools, I understand how schools operate, how educational decisions are made, and how those decisions affect students, families, teachers, and administrators.

I earned my law degree from Rutgers Law School in Camden. After relocating to Tennessee, I served as a judicial law clerk and practiced family and education law before founding Mesmer Law, LLC. I am licensed to practice in both New Jersey and Tennessee.

My New Jersey practice is devoted exclusively to school and education law, including special education, Section 504, student and teacher discipline, tenure, licensure, and other school-related disputes. In Tennessee, I also represent clients in family and juvenile matters, including divorce, custody, child support, dependency and neglect, and termination of parental rights.

My perspective is personal as well as professional. Having raised children and experienced divorce myself, I understand that these matters affect far more than a client’s legal rights. I provide practical guidance, honest advice, and a clear understanding of what is at stake.
